As detailed elsewhere, the Indore Cancer Foundation has been active in the field cancer education and training of medical personnel. We have a designed a number of training programmes:
A 10-day Palliative Care programme. This programme is designed such that the participants (groups of doctors or nurses) receive not only theoretical inputs but are also exposed to practical/bedside clinics. At the end of this training, the participants should be in a position to provide palliative care.
A 3-day palliative care sensitization programme for doctors. This is specially meant for doctors/nurses with the potential to take lead in setting up palliative care services at their work places, especially at the district/peripheral levels.
A 2-day training programme on cancer detection. This programme is designed for doctors; especially those in general practice in the cities as well as rural areas. At the end of this 2-day training, the participant will be able to use early detection techniques, like FNACs and punch biopsies.
In the year 2005, we designed a 1-day training early detection of cancer programme for doctors. This is a compressed version of our 2-day module.
A 1-day palliative care awareness programme for primary health workers and other village level awareness builders. After this training, the participants will be equipped to create the awareness that a terminally ill patient need not have a miserable quality of life. Today, the general perception is that pain and misery are a necessary though undesirable part of life of a terminally ill patient. Our objective in designing this 1-day programme was to create a pool of opinion builders who can eradicate this public misconception.
One year, part time field work training to post graduate students of Social Work.
